Some actors are happy to appear in a film even in a small role, especially if it means working with a favorite director or sharing the screen with a beloved star. However, disappointment can follow if the role doesn’t live up to expectations. This recently became the case with actress Reba Monica, who played Shruti Haasan’s sister in the film Coolie.
Reba Monica, who made her Tollywood debut with Samajavaragamana starring Sri Vishnu, appeared in Coolie in a supporting role. However, she has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the scope of her character, claiming that her role didn’t have enough prominence in the film. In an interview, she said, “I was quite disappointed after acting in Coolie. At times, I wondered why I even did it, as my role didn’t carry much significance. But I will always be grateful for the opportunity to share screen space with superstar Rajinikanth.”
Reba further explained that she approached director Lokesh Kanagaraj personally to request even a small role alongside Rajinikanth. Despite being told that her character wouldn’t have major importance, she agreed to participate, prioritizing the chance to work with the legendary star. After the film’s release, she voiced her dissatisfaction with the limited scope of her role, which sparked debates online.
Many netizens have weighed in, arguing that Reba chose to take the role despite knowing its limitations, and blaming the director now may not be entirely fair. Social media discussions also noted that this isn’t an isolated case—rumors had circulated about Aamir Khan being unhappy with Coolie, but his team clarified that he never made any such statements.
The situation highlights the challenges actors face when balancing the allure of working with superstar talent against the actual scope of their roles, and how public reactions can vary when expectations aren’t met.
