The Covid-19 pandemic and the consequent lockdown have greatly affected theatrical business. There is no update so as to when movie theaters will be allowed to open and that is encouraging Telugu filmmakers to release their movies on OTT platforms. Nani’s ‘V’, Krishna and His Leela, and UMUR are a few such films which have released directly on OTT platforms. Solo Brathuke So Better, and Nishabdham will be joining this list soon.
Going into the story, the makers of Ravi Teja’s Krack and Ram’s Red are planning to give their films a theatrical release. They are hoping that the situation clears out by next Sankranthi and are aiming to release their films during the holiday season.
However, the producers of both these films are keeping their options open for now. If Covid-19 effect does not subside by next Sankranthi, both these films will be going the OTT way. The producers are ready to negotiate with OTT platforms for a direct to digital release if theaters don’t reopen by next Sankranthi. It is said that Ram’s Red had already received a couple of interesting deals from OTT platforms. The final decision will be taken in the next couple of months.
Financial burden is one key aspect to consider for film that have completed shoot and are ready for release. Interest amounts keep piling up with every passing month and that is not in the best interests of anyone involved.
