Reliance Industries is accelerating its expansion into India’s digital infrastructure with the announcement of a 1-gigawatt (GW) AI data centre in Andhra Pradesh. The large-scale facility is designed to meet the soaring global demand for artificial intelligence computing, which requires vast processing power and highly efficient, interconnected data clusters.
The project marks a significant step in positioning India as a hub for next-generation AI technologies. Serving as a twin facility to Reliance’s gigawatt-scale AI centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, the new Andhra Pradesh site is expected to collectively form one of Asia’s strongest AI infrastructure networks. This combined capacity will create a formidable digital backbone for both domestic and regional AI-driven innovation.
While specific investment figures were not disclosed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the scale of the initiative underscores Reliance’s ambition to compete with leading global technology companies. Major industry players such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have already committed substantial capital to build large-scale data centres in India, recognising the country as a pivotal market for future digital growth.
