Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury has launched a strong criticism against the Centre and Delhi Police over the alleged use of force, including lathi charge and tear gas, during student protests in the national capital. Her emotional comments during the discussion have gained significant attention on social media.
Questioning the government’s approach towards demonstrations, Renuka Chowdhury alleged that peaceful protesters were being met with excessive force instead of dialogue. She compared the situation with earlier farmer protests, claiming that students and young people were now facing similar treatment.
The Congress leader also raised concerns over security measures around Parliament, alleging that restrictions on movement and communication reflected an attempt to suppress voices of dissent. She stated that Parliament represents the people and that peaceful protests should not be discouraged.
Expressing strong objections to the alleged action against women protesters, Renuka questioned the use of force by police personnel. She said that she would stand alongside women protesters if they faced such treatment and asserted that she was not afraid of possible consequences.
Her remarks have triggered a political debate, with Congress supporters appreciating her strong stance in support of students, while critics have questioned her statements. The controversy has further intensified the ongoing political exchange between the opposition and the Centre over the handling of protests.
