Rift in YCP? Vijayasai Reddy’s Sudden Exit Raises Questions

YCP President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with senior party leader and MP V. Vijayasai Reddy, have been known for their close partnership in both politics and controversy. Their association, which began even before Jagan formally entered politics, evolved into a deep bond that played a crucial role in the party’s rise to power. However, Vijayasai Reddy’s recent announcement of retirement from politics and departure from the party has sparked widespread speculation about the status of their relationship.

As one of Jagan’s most trusted allies, Vijayasai Reddy was often regarded as the second-most influential leader in the YSR Congress Party. He was instrumental in shaping Jagan’s political journey, including his successful bid to become Chief Minister. Vijayasai’s expertise as a chartered accountant also reportedly played a role in managing financial matters, an involvement that led to his naming as Accused No. 2 (A2) in the CBI’s illegal assets case against Jagan, who is listed as Accused No. 1 (A1).

The timing of Vijayasai’s announcement has raised several doubts. Jagan is currently enjoying a vacation with his family in London, and Vijayasai, who typically would oversee party affairs in his absence, has instead chosen to exit the political stage. This move has fueled speculation about whether all is well within the YSR Congress Party’s leadership.

In a lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter), Vijayasai Reddy revealed that he plans to focus on agriculture, marking a sharp departure from his long-standing political career. His sudden decision to shift priorities has given rise to numerous questions. Is Vijayasai stepping away from politics to avoid potential legal consequences, especially in light of ongoing investigations such as the coercive acquisition of shares in Kakinada Deep Water Port by Aurobindo Realty, a firm linked to his family? Or does his departure signal a deeper rift in his relationship with Jagan, with whom he shared a decades-long association?

Vijayasai Reddy has been a key figure in the party, particularly in his role as in-charge of the North Andhra region. His departure could disrupt the party’s organizational structure and raise doubts about the strength of its leadership. While his announcement may appear to be a personal decision, the backdrop of political and legal complexities surrounding both Jagan and Vijayasai adds intrigue to the situation.

Whether this is merely an individual choice or a sign of larger cracks within the YSR Congress Party remains to be seen. For now, Vijayasai Reddy’s sudden exit leaves more questions than answers about the future of the party and its leadership.
