Kannada superstar Rishab Shetty has once again created waves at the box office. Following the massive pan-India success of the 2022 fantasy drama Kantara, the National Award-winning actor-director has now delivered another blockbuster with its prequel, Kantara Chapter 1, which is fast approaching the ₹500-crore milestone.
In an exclusive interview with manatelugu.com during his promotional tour in New Delhi, Rishab Shetty shared insights into the fascinating universe of Kantara. “I have been immersed in this world ever since making Kantara. It’s deeply connected to my childhood and my family. The Daiva we worship has always been a part of my life. The prardhana (Kola) encapsulates all the stories about the Daiva, narrating divine power and the Maya Loka,” he explained.
Rishab elaborated on the prequel, saying, “The ideas, characters, and humour are designed to evoke the feeling of the Maya Loka. It’s like our Ajji Kathe (Grandmother’s fairy tale) — the real story begins there. Chapter 1 had the most complex script, and it was challenging to convey it effectively to the audience. The characters in this prequel are ancestors of those in the first film, and the connection will expand as I explore more stories.”
When asked about the mythical well introduced in the franchise and the duration of the series, Rishab candidly admitted that he doesn’t have a set plan. “We didn’t find a clear start or end for these stories. We’re just going with the flow and seeing where it leads,” he said with a smile.
During the conversation, Rishab also expressed his admiration for the Telugu language and its people. “If I start speaking slowly, I can pick up Telugu. I have many Telugu-speaking friends, so I’ll learn it soon,” he shared. His comfort and enthusiasm highlight how naturally he embraces and connects with every culture he engages with.
