Rishab Shetty’s Cultural Epic Journey Ahead

After the phenomenal success of Kantara, Rishab Shetty is charting a focused path in his career, committed to culturally rooted storytelling. Over the next five years, the actor-director plans to work exclusively on historical epics and mythological fantasy films across multiple languages and production houses.

Leading this lineup is Kantara Chapter 1, a highly anticipated prequel to his 2022 blockbuster. Shetty will direct and play the lead once again, with Hombale Films backing the project. The film is slated for a grand theatrical release on October 2, 2025, and promises to dive deeper into the folklore and spiritual mysticism that defined the original.

Another major project is The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, where Shetty will essay the role of the legendary Maratha warrior. Directed and possibly produced by Sandeep Singh, the film is scheduled for a January 2027 release. It aims to narrate a grand, pan-India story of Shivaji’s leadership, valor, and enduring legacy.

Shetty is also on board for 1770 Movie, inspired by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s classic novel Anandamath. Directed by Ashwin Gangaraju (Aakashavani fame) and produced by Sithara Entertainments, the film is set during the Sannyasi Rebellion, exploring early anti-colonial resistance. While the release date remains unconfirmed, production is expected to commence soon.

Adding to his historical repertoire, Shetty is attached to a biopic on Sri Krishnadevaraya, to be directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, known for acclaimed period films like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar. Vishnu Vardhan Induri is producing this ambitious project, currently in its early development stages.

Another exciting venture is Jai Hanuman, directed by Prasanth Varma and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. Part of Varma’s expanding mythological universe that began with Hanu-Man, this project is expected to take time to launch, as Varma is presently occupied with his upcoming film starring Prabhas.

With this thoughtfully curated slate, Rishab Shetty is establishing himself as a premier storyteller deeply engaged with India’s spiritual, mythological, and historical heritage. Each project explores a distinct narrative era, yet collectively, they reinforce his vision of delivering grounded, large-scale, and culturally significant cinema.
