Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, released on October 2, 2025, has sparked mixed reactions among audiences. While the prequel has already grossed over ₹100 crore worldwide within its first two days, many viewers feel it doesn’t quite match the impact of the original 2022 film. Despite this, notable filmmakers like Ram Gopal Varma and Sandeep Reddy Vanga have praised it as a cinematic masterpiece.
In the Telugu states, audience response has been moderate, though box office collections remain strong. One element, however, has received widespread acclaim: Rukmini Vasanth. Particularly among younger viewers, her beauty and compelling performance in key sequences have become a major talking point.
Rukmini first gained attention with her charm in the two-part Kannada film Side A Side B, which opened doors to bigger projects like Kantara: Chapter 1 and Yash’s Toxic. While some of her other films, including Nikhil Siddhartha’s Appudo Ippudo Eppudo, Bagheera, and Madhraasi, failed to perform at the box office, Kantara: Chapter 1 has been a turning point.
With this film, Rukmini has demonstrated her versatility and undeniable screen presence, resonating strongly with young audiences and reaffirming her place as a rising star in the industry.
