Nag Ashwin, who is currently reworking the casting of Kalki 2 after Deepika Padukone’s exit, is reportedly considering reviving his long-planned woman-centric action drama in the interim.
While Alia Bhatt was once in contention, her bulk commitment to Maddock Films’ Chamunda from March 2026 leaves little room for her to take on Ashwin’s project. This has brought Sai Pallavi back into the discussion, a name the director has consistently favored for the lead role.
A source close to the development shared, “Nag never really abandoned the idea of the woman-led film. It was simply on the backburner through most of 2025. With the latest changes around Kalki 2, this project has a real chance of moving forward.”
Pallavi’s participation, however, hinges on her schedule. The actress is deeply involved in the two-part Ramayana saga and is expected to complete the second installment by mid-2026. If her dates align, she may collaborate with Ashwin before he resumes work on Kalki 2.
For now, industry insiders stress that nothing is confirmed. But speculation remains high that Sai Pallavi could step into what may turn out to be one of Nag Ashwin’s most ambitious ventures yet.
