Known for his satirical comments and witty posts in the social media, YSR Congress party general secretary and parliamentary party leader V Vijay Sai Reddy on Thursday “thanked” the Congress party for helping him get into Rajya Sabha.
“I have come to this stage only because of the alleged illegal cases foisted against me by the Congress party. I must thank the Congress for indirectly helping me become the member of Rajya Sabha now,” Sai Reddy said, while speaking at a function in Delhi organised by the Rajya Sabha secretariat to give send off to the outgoing members.
He, however, profusely thanked YSRC president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for nominating him to Rajya Sabha.
“It is my fortune to grow to the stature of Rajya Sabha member from a chartered accountant in Chennai,” he said.
At the same time, Sai Reddy extended his gratitude to his colleagues in Rajya Sabha from time to time.
“Congress member Jairam Ramesh who gave him a lot of suggestions on various issues has a special place in my heart. So is former Prime Minister I K Gujral, who guided me when I was elected to RS,” he said.
The YSRC leader was also all praise for Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu for upholding the dignity of the upper house.
“I am very fortunate to be a member of the House chaired by Venkaiah Naidu,” he said.
Sai Reddy appreciated the style of functioning of finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman, who had noted down every single suggestion and tried to solve them with sincerity.
At the same time, he also had a special praise for T G Venkatesh, who defected from Telugu Desam Party to BJP, for his effective functioning as the chairman of parliamentary standing committee on transport and tourism.
“He was always in the forefront among all the standing committees and as the chairman of standing committee on commerce, I was trying to score a point over him,” he said.
Though Sai Reddy still has time till June, the ongoing Rajya Sabha session would be his last in the current term. He is most likely to get re-elected to Rajya Sabha in the elections to be held shortly.
