In 2020, she has not faced the camera for the movie though she had participated in a web series, “The Family Man”.

During the lockdown period, she has acquired new hobbies like urban farming and yoga. She has become obsessed with these hobbies and has cut down social media spend as well.

She will resume the shoot only after the Dussera festival. Samantha is hoping that the corona cases will subside by then.

She has signed two films – a Pan-India movie in the direction of Ashwin Saravanan, and a Tamil comedy that also features Nayantara. She will have to commence the shoot for these movies.

Her husband Naga Chaitanya is also waiting for things to settle down to resume the shoot of Sekhar Kammula’s “Love Story”.

Varanasi Faces IMAX Challenge Ahead of 2027 Release

July 16, 2026

Varanasi, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, is already being regarded as one of the most anticipated Indian films of 2027. Following the global success of RRR, trade experts expect the film to enjoy a phenomenal overseas run. However, one factor that could influence its international box office performance is the competition for IMAX screens.

Unlike many films that undergo IMAX conversion after production, Varanasi is reportedly being designed and filmed specifically to maximize the IMAX format, promising a premium cinematic experience. However, the release window is shaping up to be highly competitive in international markets. Hollywood blockbusters such as Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, scheduled for March 26, 2027, and Panic Carefully, releasing on April 9, 2027, have already secured IMAX releases. More major studio films are also expected to join the calendar, increasing competition for premium large-format screens.

Since IMAX and other premium screens generate a significant share of revenue for event films, limited screen availability in key overseas markets could slightly impact Varanasi’s earning potential. While the film is unlikely to face issues in securing standard screens, the allocation of IMAX screens during its April 7, 2027 release period will be an important factor that the makers will be closely watching.

The situation is equally interesting in India, where the number of genuine IMAX theatres remains limited. Although several multiplexes promote IMAX auditoriums, only a handful offer the complete IMAX experience. This has led to discussions about whether additional IMAX screens, particularly in major cities like Hyderabad, could be introduced before Varanasi reaches theatres. With the film promising a visually spectacular experience, expanding premium-screen infrastructure could benefit both audiences and exhibitors. How the IMAX landscape evolves over the coming months will be crucial in determining the film’s premium-format reach.
