Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga penned an emotional note on Monday as his cult hit Arjun Reddy completed eight years since its release.
Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, the filmmaker expressed heartfelt gratitude to the audience who turned his story into a cultural phenomenon. “Eight years ago, Arjun Reddy changed my life forever. What began as a story close to my heart became a movement, only because of your love and relentless support. Every frame, every dialogue, every emotion in this film found meaning because you embraced it with such honesty and passion,” he wrote.
He further thanked his actors, team, and fans for continuing to celebrate the film: “Here’s to eight years of a journey that still feels fresh, raw, and alive. Thank you for making it eternal.” Along with his note, Vanga also shared a behind-the-scenes video featuring himself and lead actor Vijay Deverakonda, delighting fans.
Released in 2017, Arjun Reddy starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles, with Rahul Ramakrishna, Jia Sharma, Sanjay Swaroop, Gopinath Bhat, and Kamal Kamaraju in supporting parts. Produced by Bhadrakali Pictures on a modest budget of around ₹5 crore, the film went on to collect over ₹50 crore worldwide, becoming both a critical and commercial success.
However, the film also sparked controversy, with critics alleging it promoted misogyny and substance abuse. Despite the debates, Arjun Reddy redefined Telugu cinema and established Vijay Deverakonda and Sandeep Reddy Vanga as household names.
