The stage is almost set for the wiping out of the Telugu Desam Party in Telangana, at least insofar as the state assembly is concerned.
According to latest reports, TDP legislator from Sattupalli Sandra Venkata Veeraiah is all set to join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi before the commencement of the first session of the newly-constituted state assembly on January 17.
Sandra reportedly met the top TRS leaders a couple of days ago and negotiated the deal. In all probability, he might be inducted into the state cabinet. It is learnt he conveyed his decision to defect to the TRS to the TDP high command
However, another TDP MLA Mecha Nageshwar Rao is said to be still undecided in defecting to the TRS. Though he met his mentor and former minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao a few days ago, he said it was just a courtesty call. But it led to the speculations that he might also jump into the TRS.
Though Mecha clarified that he was not going to change his party, it is learnt he wants to wait for some more time till he gets a concrete assurance from the TRS leadership over any big post like Parliamentary Secretary or any corporation chairman post.
“It is only a matter of time that he, too, will jump the fence to join the TRS,” a party leader said.
