Without a doubt, the Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe (LCU) has become South India’s most ambitious and expansive cinematic universe, bringing together some of Tamil cinema’s biggest superstars—Karthi, Suriya, Vijay, and Kamal Haasan. Naturally, with such an impressive lineup, many stars across the country are eager to be part of this ever-growing phenomenon.

It all started with Kaithi (2019), led by Karthi, which laid the groundwork for what would become the LCU. Since the very first installment, fans have been eagerly awaiting Kaithi 2. However, Lokesh Kanagaraj shifted focus to several other blockbusters before revisiting the sequel. Recently, he confirmed that Kaithi 2 will go on floors after he wraps up Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film Coolie, which boasts a pan-Indian ensemble featuring Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Aamir Khan.

With Coolie scheduled for an August 14 release, Lokesh has reportedly already begun the groundwork for Kaithi 2. The latest buzz suggests that Lady Superstar Anushka Shetty is in discussions to join the project. While her role is being kept under wraps, industry reports hint that she could play Karthi’s wife, as the sequel may delve into a prequel storyline—something Lokesh subtly hinted at in Kaithi. If this materializes, Anushka’s inclusion would significantly amplify the film’s star power. Interestingly, this would reunite Anushka and Karthi after more than a decade since their 2013 film Alex Pandian.

On her professional front, Anushka Shetty is gearing up for her comeback with Ghaati, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, set to release on July 11. She was last seen in Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty (2023) alongside Naveen Polishetty. Additionally, she has the Malayalam fantasy thriller Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer with director Rojin Thomas in the pipeline. Joining Kaithi 2 could mark a major turning point in her second innings.

Meanwhile, Karthi himself is on a sequel streak. Apart from Kaithi 2, he has already wrapped up Sardar 2 and is involved in potential sequels like Aayirathil Oruvan 2, Theeran Adhigaram Ondru 2, and HIT 4. The official cast and crew announcement for Kaithi 2 is expected shortly after Coolie hits theaters. With each update, the LCU continues to grow, further fueling fan excitement!
