In the wake of widespread outrage across Karnataka over Kamal Haasan’s recent remarks suggesting that “Kannada was born out of Tamil,” Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar has come forward to defend the veteran actor, emphasizing Haasan’s longstanding respect for the Kannada language and Bengaluru city.
Speaking to the media, Shiva Rajkumar clarified that Kamal Haasan has consistently spoken with admiration for Bengaluru and has always expressed pride in its culture and people. “Kamal sir has often spoken highly of the Kannada language and the city of Bengaluru. His affection is genuine,” Rajkumar said.
Addressing the viral video clip that sparked backlash, Shivanna explained that his applause during a recent event was misinterpreted. “I didn’t clap for Kamal’s statement about the Kannada language. I clapped when he said he was ‘Shivanna’s Chinnappa,’ which is a personal and affectionate reference. Unfortunately, the video was edited and circulated in a misleading manner,” he said.
While defending Kamal Haasan’s intent, Shiva Rajkumar also took the opportunity to underscore the importance of consistently supporting and promoting the Kannada language. “Kannada is a language we must always cherish and uplift. It deserves unwavering support from all of us,” he added.
Known for his dignified and soft-spoken nature, Shiva Rajkumar addressed the controversy in a composed manner, urging the public to seek context before reacting to fragmented information.
