Mumtaz’s Journey, From Glamorous Star to Spiritual Devotee

January 22, 2025

Mumtaz, also known as Nagma Khan, gained fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with her striking dance numbers in Tamil and Telugu films. Quickly becoming a sought-after name in special songs, her performances in popular films like Khushi and Attarintiki Daredi alongside Powerstar Pawan Kalyan earned her widespread recognition. Despite her rising fame, Mumtaz shocked her fans by stepping away from the film industry at the height of her career. Known for her bold and glamorous screen presence, she left an indelible mark on the Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam film industries. Her final Telugu film appearance came in 2015 with Tommy, leaving fans curious about her sudden disappearance.

Recently, Mumtaz opened up about her decision to step away from acting, explaining that a profound spiritual transformation led her to leave the glitz and glamour of cinema behind. Born into a Muslim family, she shared how her deeper understanding of the Quran inspired her life-changing decision. Embracing spirituality, she now wears the hijab and focuses on her faith, even making pilgrimages to Mecca three times.

In an emotional message to her fans and social media followers, Mumtaz expressed regret over her past glamorous roles, admitting discomfort when watching her old dance performances, especially with her family. She pleaded with her followers not to share her bold pictures after her passing, requesting that her past image not be preserved on social media. Although she seeks to move on from this part of her life, the memories persist, especially online.

On a more personal note, Mumtaz shared that her glamorous past has affected her chances of marriage, revealing that it has been difficult to find a life partner due to her film choices. Though she holds little hope for marriage at this stage, she remains hopeful for a brighter future. Her final Tamil film appearance was in Rajadhi Raja, where she portrayed a villainous role alongside Raghava Lawrence.
