When a young actor delivers a hit, it naturally boosts their confidence—and rightfully so. Two consecutive hits? Even better. But assuming that the audience will show up for anything just because the last film worked? That’s where overconfidence can become a pitfall. And that seems to be the case with Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s latest release, Jack.
Marketed as a comedy-action entertainer, Jack struggles to find its footing. The tone feels inconsistent, the narrative lacks clarity, and most notably, the hero’s characterization is underwhelming. Instead of giving us a fresh protagonist, the film unintentionally feels like a weaker shadow of DJ Tillu—one of Siddhu’s most iconic roles.
Directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar, Jack had the potential to be something unique. But somewhere along the way, it seems Bhaskar gave Siddhu too much creative freedom, resulting in the actor falling back into familiar territory. Siddhu doesn’t truly become Jack—he ends up channeling Tillu again. From the attitude and body language to the dialogue delivery, it all feels like a remix of DJ Tillu and Tillu Square, rather than a new character.
The audience, however, came in expecting something different. After two successful films, they were ready to see Siddhu in a brand-new avatar, not another Tillu-style performance under a different name. Disappointed fans are now hoping he breaks free from the Tillu mould and reinvents himself onscreen.
That opportunity might come with Telusu Kada, his upcoming film directed by Neeraja Kona. The big question now is—can Siddhu bounce back and truly evolve as an actor? Time will tell.
