In a surprising development, actor Unni Mukundan has officially withdrawn from the much-anticipated sequel Marco 2, citing an overwhelming amount of negativity surrounding the project.

When a fan recently inquired about the film’s release, Unni responded that he is no longer associated with the Marco franchise. The actor mentioned that while the series had initially generated excitement, the atmosphere around the sequel had turned “too negative” for him to continue. However, he reassured fans that he has something bigger and better in store — a project he believes will surpass Marco in every way.

Released in 2024, the first installment of Marco was a neo-noir action thriller set in a universe reminiscent of Mikhael. Unni Mukundan starred as Mark D. Peter Jr., a man who spirals into violence after the murder of his foster brother. The film, rated ‘A’ for its intense action and dark themes, was both a commercial and critical success, praised especially for its gripping storyline and screenplay. It became one of the highest-grossing films in the Malayalam film industry that year.

Unni has expressed his regret for stepping away from the sequel, apologizing to fans for the disappointment but promising that what’s coming next will make up for it.
