New York, April 10, 2025 — Augustin Escobar, CEO of Siemens Spain, tragically lost his life along with his family in a helicopter crash over the Hudson River in Manhattan on Wednesday. The accident claimed the lives of Mr. Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, their three young children aged 4, 5, and 11, as well as the pilot.
The Bell 306 helicopter reportedly experienced a structural failure mid-air shortly after takeoff from New York, leading to a devastating plunge into the river. Emergency responders confirmed that all six individuals on board were deceased.
Mr. Escobar, 54, was in New York on a family vacation from Barcelona. A respected leader and industry veteran, Escobar had been with Siemens for over 27 years. He began his career at the company in 1998 as Head of Sales & Project Management for Power Automation Systems in Spain, rising steadily through the ranks to become CEO of Siemens Spain.
Educated in Electrical Industrial Engineering at Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Escobar was widely admired for his technical expertise and visionary leadership. He was known for fostering innovation and nurturing talent across Siemens’ global operations.
Just weeks before the tragedy, Escobar visited India as part of his ongoing engagement with Siemens Mobility’s global infrastructure teams. In a heartfelt post on LinkedIn, he described the visit as “deeply inspiring,” praising the energy, passion, and excellence of the teams in Bangalore, Pune, and Mumbai. “From town halls to small group discussions, every conversation showed me why India is such a crucial part of our global success story,” he wrote.
The news of his untimely passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, partners, and industry leaders across the globe. Messages of condolences and respect have filled his recent LinkedIn posts, highlighting the profound impact he made on those around him both personally and professionally.
Siemens issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss and extended its condolences to all those affected. The company described Mr. Escobar as a dedicated leader, a compassionate colleague, and a cherished member of the Siemens family.
