Silambarasan TR, popularly known as Simbu, is wasting no time bouncing back after the lukewarm reception to Thug Life, his recent release alongside Kamal Haasan. While the film fell short both critically and commercially, Simbu is already shifting gears and lining up an impressive slate of new projects — including a surprise collaboration that has fans buzzing.
According to reliable sources, the Maanaadu star is in advanced talks to headline an upcoming gangster drama directed by the acclaimed Vetrimaaran. Set against the gritty backdrop of North Chennai, this untitled project is expected to go on floors by the end of June or early July. Veteran producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu is backing the film, with an official announcement anticipated soon. The project is being positioned as a sharp, fast-paced drama that Vetrimaaran aims to wrap up before beginning work on Vaadivaasal, his long-delayed film with Suriya, scheduled to start in November.
Beyond the Vetrimaaran film, Simbu is keeping himself busy with several high-profile ventures. Next up is a project directed by Parking fame Ramkumar Balakrishnan, featuring Kayadu Lohar as the female lead and Santhanam in a crucial role. Following that, he will star in a big-budget film helmed by Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal director Desingu Periyasamy. Notably, this marks Simbu’s debut as a producer under his own banner.
Additionally, Simbu is set to lead a commercial entertainer bankrolled by AGS Productions and directed by Dragon fame Ashwath Marimuthu. Adding to the excitement, rumors continue to swirl about a potential collaboration with legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam, with Sapta Sagaralu Dhaati actress Rukmini Vasanth reportedly in talks to play the female lead.
With a dynamic lineup of films and ambitious collaborations, Simbu seems determined to reclaim his momentum and deliver strong performances across genres. For now, all eyes are on the Vetrimaaran project — an official announcement is expected any day now.
