The tragic death of multiple devotees in a wall collapse at the Simhachalam temple has sparked a political controversy, with TDP leaders blaming the YCP government for the incident. Sources revealed that the wall, constructed during the YCP’s tenure, was found to be structurally weak, contributing to the deaths of eight individuals, with many more feared trapped under the rubble.
The wall, built in 2021-22 under the Prasadam scheme with funds sanctioned by the central government, was reportedly made of flyash bricks that were not properly bound with cement. Despite being a recent construction, the wall lacked necessary strength. Upon receiving information about the collapse, Home Minister Anitha quickly arrived at the site to oversee the relief operations conducted by the NDRF. Officials confirmed that the wall crumbled due to poor construction quality.
After flash rains on Tuesday, the wall at the Rs 300 ticket counter became waterlogged and eventually collapsed onto devotees standing in the queue. In response to allegations of substandard construction, Minister Anitha announced that an investigation would be conducted into the incident.
The tragedy resulted in the deaths of eight devotees, including three women, and left 10 others with serious injuries.
