Indian badminton star PV Sindhu, who lost the Gold medal at Rio Olympics 2016 to Spaniard Carolina Marin, avenged that loss by beating the World No.1 Marin in the women’s singles final of the India Open Super Series on Sunday.

The Rio Olympics Silver medalist Sindhu looked in imperial form when she defeated Marin in straight sets 21-19, 21-16 to win her maiden India Open Super Series title. In a pulsating contest, which appeared as a repeat of the Rio Olympic final, Sindhu showed nerves of steel to win the key points at the closing stages of each game and eventually the match.

This was the 10th time Sindhu and Marin clashed at an international event and they are currently tied at 5-5 on head-to-head clashes. Having such a record against the World No.1 player itself it a depiction of how qualitative Sindhu’s game has become in the recent past.

It may be recalled that Sindhu also beat compatriot Saina Nehwal in the Quarter Final of this tournament.
