Malayalam cinema’s legendary actor Mohan Lal is reportedly seeking a major pay hike after the tremendous box office success of his recent films like L2: Empuraan and Thudarum. A prominent producer revealed that these two blockbusters have collectively grossed over ₹350 crores and are still going strong in theatres. “Mohan Lal has now fully realised his market potential,” the producer stated. “He is currently quoting a remuneration of ₹20 crores, along with the overseas rights for the Gulf region. And honestly, considering the scale of his success, he absolutely deserves it. Both films have cemented their place among the top five highest-grossing Malayalam movies of all time.”

While several top stars in Tamil and Telugu industries have rigid pricing structures, Mohan Lal is known for his flexibility. “For mid-budget content-driven films like Drishyam, he typically charges ₹5–6 crores. But when it comes to big-scale, pan-Indian action dramas like Empuraan, his fee can go up to ₹15 crores or even more,” the producer added.

Industry insiders believe this move could make Mohan Lal the highest-paid actor in Malayalam cinema, overtaking big names like Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, and Unni Mukundan. “He’s not just capitalising on his current success—he’s redefining what star power looks like in Mollywood,” concluded the source.
