Actor Sivaji has issued a public apology following the intense backlash over his controversial remarks at the Dhandoraa event, where his comments on actresses and women’s clothing sparked widespread outrage.
During his speech, Sivaji stated that women who wear revealing outfits are often spoken about in a derogatory manner behind their backs, using objectionable words such as “Daridrapu M*nda.” He further aggravated the situation by asking women to cover their “saamanlu,” a remark that drew sharp criticism for being insensitive and inappropriate.
The reaction was swift, with several celebrities and members of the film industry condemning his statements. The pressure escalated when Voice of Women, a collective representing working women, actresses, producers, directors, and technicians, demanded an unconditional apology, calling his remarks unacceptable and demeaning to women.
Amid mounting criticism, Sivaji released a video apology acknowledging that he should not have used the two “unparliamentary words” and expressing regret over his choice of language. He admitted that while his intention may not have been wrong, his words were inappropriate and hurtful.
However, Sivaji also attempted to clarify that his comments were not directed at women in general, stating that he was referring only to certain actresses and specific recent incidents. He reiterated that he has always respected women and regards them with the utmost reverence.
