Former Union Minister Smriti Irani is set to reprise her iconic role as Tulsi Virani in the much-anticipated reboot of the classic Indian television drama Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The new season is scheduled to premiere on July 29, 2025, at 10:30 PM on Star Plus.
The original series, which first aired in 2000, became a cultural phenomenon and one of the most beloved shows in Indian television history. At the time, Irani reportedly earned a modest ₹1,800 per episode. Fast forward to the reboot, and her current per-episode salary is rumored to be ₹14 lakh — although the production team has not officially confirmed this figure.
Smriti Irani’s return to television marks a significant moment for fans who grew up watching the show and for an industry that has seen her transition from a television superstar to a prominent political figure. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2003 and has since served in several key roles, including National Secretary and President of the BJP Mahila Morcha, the party’s women’s wing.
With the reboot, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi aims to reconnect with long-time viewers and introduce a new generation to the legacy of Tulsi Virani — a character that redefined Indian television.
