Once hesitant to step into South Indian cinema, many Bollywood stars are now eagerly expanding their reach beyond North India. With Tollywood’s growing recognition and shifting box office dynamics, several top Hindi actors have embraced Telugu cinema — and for many, the move has paid off.
Among them, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha aimed to make a strong Telugu debut with the supernatural thriller Jatadhara, co-starring Sudheer Babu. In the film, she portrayed Dhanapisachini, the goddess of greed — a dark, intense, mythological character that promised to showcase a new dimension of her acting prowess.
Expectations were high after the film’s teasers and trailers hinted at a powerful performance from the Dabangg star. However, Jatadhara failed to live up to the hype, both critically and commercially. Released last Friday, the film crashed at the box office, receiving poor reviews and lackluster audience response.
Neither the script nor the performances managed to impress viewers, and Sonakshi’s role — which was expected to be a strong highlight — went largely unnoticed. What was anticipated to be a dream launch in Tollywood turned into a disappointing experience for the actress.
Sonakshi had hoped Jatadhara would open doors for more Telugu film offers, but the film’s dismal performance has unfortunately dimmed those chances — at least for now.
