Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam, known for his Telugu chartbusters like Aakasam Sakshiga and Raave Naa Chaliyaa, has landed in controversy — not for his music, but over a police case linked to remarks he allegedly made during a live concert.
On May 5, the Bengaluru police served a notice to Sonu Nigam, summoning him for questioning in connection with a complaint filed two days earlier at the Avalahalli Police Station. The FIR reportedly includes Section 352, which relates to criminal force or provocation. The complaint alleges that Sonu insulted Kannadigas during a concert held on April 25. Notices have also been sent to the event organizers.
The situation escalated when the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) responded strongly, announcing a complete boycott of Sonu Nigam. According to the KFCC, the singer has not responded to repeated calls and has offered no apology since the incident surfaced. They made it clear: unless he issues an apology, he will not be welcomed for any future collaborations in the Kannada film industry.
The controversy reportedly stems from an onstage moment when the audience requested him to sing in Kannada. Irritated, Sonu is said to have made a sarcastic remark referencing a previous concert in Pahalgam, which many in the crowd found offensive. What may have started as a spontaneous comment has now spiraled into a serious dispute, affecting both Sonu’s public image and his professional ties in Karnataka.
