Suriya’s Telugu Comeback & Jyotika’s Bollywood Rise
After nearly 15 years, actor Suriya is making a comeback with a straight Telugu film. His last direct Telugu outing was Rakta Charitra 2, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, which released in 2010. Since then, Telugu audiences have only seen him through dubbed versions of his Tamil films, many of which garnered a strong following—especially Surya Son of Krishnan, which remains a fan favorite.
Despite his growing fan base in the Telugu states, Suriya largely stayed focused on Tamil cinema. However, his recent releases Retro and Kanguva didn’t make much impact at the box office. Now, capitalizing on his pan-south popularity, Suriya is shifting gears. He has teamed up with director Venky Atluri for a new Telugu project, which officially began shooting in May this year with a pooja ceremony in Hyderabad. The film is scheduled for a 2026 release. Additionally, a second project is reportedly in pre-production with director Chandoo Mondeti, under the banner of Geetha Arts.
On the other hand, his wife Jyotika is gaining momentum in Bollywood. After her debut with Doli Saja Ke Rakhna in 1998 didn’t take off, she re-entered the Hindi film industry with a strong comeback. In 2024 alone, she starred in the horror film Shaitaan and the biographical drama Srikanth, and also made her OTT debut with Dabba Cartel.
Jyotika will next be seen alongside Sonakshi Sinha in a courtroom drama directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. The film, a hard-hitting legal drama, is backed by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, and Harman Baweja under Excel Entertainment and Baweja Studios. Originally, the project was to feature Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani, but casting changes and creative revisions led to a fresh approach.
With Suriya tapping into Tollywood and Jyotika making waves in Bollywood and OTT, the star couple is clearly expanding their reach across industries, much to the delight of their fans.
