When we hear the name Acharya, most people instantly recall the 2022 disaster featuring Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan. Directed by Koratala Siva, this big-budget action drama hit the screens with sky-high expectations but ended up facing scathing reviews and a dismal box office run — it couldn’t even recover half of its budget.
But did you know that long before the Megastar’s Acharya, another film with the same title was launched with actor Srikanth in the lead?
Back in 2013, director Vamsikrishna Akella of Raksha fame announced a film titled Acharya starring Srikanth. It was produced by Gururaj under the Lepakshi banner. The launch event was held with much fanfare — actor Sunil gave the ceremonial first clap for the muhurat shot, and regular shooting began in Hyderabad.
The film was planned as a romantic drama, evident from its quirky and bold tagline: “Warning: Love is Injurious to Youth.” However, despite completing its first schedule, the project abruptly came to a halt. For reasons unknown — possibly financial constraints — the film was shelved and never revived. It vanished without a trace, and no attempts were made to bring it back on track.
Since then, Srikanth’s career as a lead hero gradually faded. He transitioned into supporting roles, frequently appearing in South Indian films in strong character parts. He has also adapted to changing trends by acting in web series. In 2024, Srikanth appeared in Telugu biggies like Game Changer and Arjun: Son of Vyjayanthi.
So yes, long before Chiranjeevi’s Acharya made headlines — for all the wrong reasons — there was another Acharya that quietly disappeared before it even got a proper chance.
