STR 49, tentatively titled and directed by Vetrimaaran, starring Simbu, is already creating a buzz among Tamil cinema fans. While the film is not a direct sequel to Vada Chennai, its story is set within the Vada Chennai universe, marking Vetrimaaran’s first foray into creating a cinematic universe.
A teaser for the film was released on September 4, coinciding with Vetrimaaran’s 50th birthday, and producer Kalaippuli S Thanu has confirmed that the full promo will drop on October 4. Meanwhile, speculation is rife regarding the film’s music. Traditionally, Vetrimaaran collaborates with GV Prakash, Santhosh Narayanan, or Ilaiyaraaja, but rumors suggest that Anirudh Ravichander may be composing the soundtrack this time.
If confirmed, this would be the first collaboration between Vetrimaaran and Anirudh, as well as the first time Simbu and Anirudh are working together despite their long-standing friendship. Fans are particularly excited about this new combination.
Vetrimaaran’s films are known for their raw, rustic aesthetic, whereas Anirudh’s music has rarely ventured into this style. This makes STR 49 a fresh and intriguing experiment for both the director and composer. The upcoming promo on October 4 is expected to clarify whether Anirudh is officially part of the project.
With this first-time trio of Vetrimaaran, Simbu, and Anirudh, STR 49 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Tamil films, promising a unique blend of gritty storytelling and fresh musical vibes.
