Supreme Court refuses Anil Deshmukh’s petition against Bombay HC’s orders in CBI probe!

Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh who stepped down from his post with allegations faced a heavy blow after the Supreme Court dismissed his petition on Thursday.

Anil Deshmukh knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court challenging the orders issued by the Bombay High Court to launch a preliminary CBI probe against him over the allegations made by former Mumbai top cop.

The top court dismissed the petition filed by Anil Deshmukh and said investigation from an independent agency is required taking the seriousness of allegations and people involved in this issue into consideration.

“Given the serious nature of allegations, and the personas involved, the matter do require an independent agency to investigate the matter. It is a matter of public confidence. We may also note that what has been ordered is only a preliminary enquiry. Therefore, we are no inclined to interfere with the impugned order,” the Supreme Court said.

The Supreme Court said the High Court ordered a preliminary inquiry. Serious allegations were made against the senior minister by a senior officer, the top court observed.

Earlier this week. The Bombay High Court ordered a preliminary investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh against Anil Deshmukh.
