Suriya has long been regarded as one of the most respected actors in the industry, known for his stellar performances, clean public image, and philanthropic work through the Agaram Foundation. However, despite his popularity, his recent film choices have not been able to live up to expectations, and he’s been going through a rough patch at the box office.
Kanguva had created a buzz among fans, with high hopes that it would mark his return to the blockbuster zone. Despite giving his all, both physically and mentally, the film failed to make an impact, leaving fans disheartened. His faith in director Siva didn’t pay off, and the film couldn’t deliver the desired results.
Following this, Retro hit the screens, and unfortunately, the story remained the same. Suriya placed his trust in director Karthik Subbaraj, attracted by the director’s style, but once again, the film failed to impress. Despite quick production and a smooth shoot, the film’s release was met with a lukewarm response. The outdated storytelling, slow pace, and lackluster performances from even the star-studded cast made it difficult for the movie to leave an impact.
It almost seemed like Karthik Subbaraj created the film to prove his relevance, but the attempt didn’t resonate with audiences. Fans, once again, are left disappointed and questioning when Suriya will finally land a solid hit.
Looking ahead, Suriya 45, directed by RJ Balaji, is almost complete, and there’s cautious optimism surrounding the project. However, more attention is being placed on Venky Atluri’s upcoming film. Known for his successes with films like Sir and Lucky Bhaskar, this vintage drama is said to be a well-crafted story that could be the perfect fit for Suriya’s talents.
If either of these two films succeed, Suriya could potentially regain his former glory. But if they don’t, rebuilding his once-dominant market may prove to be a much steeper climb.
