One of the dominant sides in world cricket, Australia had won five 50 Over World Cup trophies making it the most successful team as far as the World Cup tournament is concerned. But the team has been waiting to win a trophy for long years, it is the World Cup in the shorter format of the game.
Keeping an end to a long wait of 13 years, the Aaron Finch-led Australia had lifted its maiden T 20 World Cup by defeating New Zealand in the finals. Australia went with aggressive gameplay that made the team kiss the trophy.
Australia had won the toss and put New Zealand to bat first. The Kangaroo team bowling attack had restricted New Zealand to 172 for the loss of four wickets in their quota of 20 overs. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson played a key role in giving his team a respectable total in the finals. Kane scored a useful knock of 85 when his team needed the most.
Losing the early wicket of skipper Aaron Finch did not make any difference to the Australian team with David Warner and Mitchell Marsh taking charge. They both had a wonderful partnership of 98 runs that turned the match towards the Aussies. After a wonderful half-century, David Warner lost his wicket when he was on 53.
Mitchell Marsh(77 not out) and Glenn Maxwell(28 not out) finished the job and with their heroics, the Kangaroo team chased the target with 7 balls to spare. David Warner answered critics with a stunning tournament. For his heroics in the World Cup, Warner was presented with Man of the tournament.
After the bad Indian Premier League(IPL) season, David Warner was under severe criticism. With this, he was not even played in the IPL by the SRH management. His selection into the team also raised a lot of questions.
Without getting affected by the criticism around him, David Warner made his bat talk. He got his form back and scored 289 runs in the tournament that included three half-centuries. He made the runs at a strike rate of a whopping 146.
