A techie from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly died by suicide earlier this week, leaving behind a distressing video in which he accused his wife of infidelity.
The deceased, Manav Sharma, an employee at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), was found hanging in his home on February 24, according to officials.
Sharma’s sister discovered the video on his phone two days after his death. In the seven-minute-long recording, Sharma, with a noose around his neck, expressed his anguish and blamed his wife for his suffering.
“This is for the authorities. The law needs to protect men, or there will come a time when no men are left to blame. My wife was involved with another man… But what can I do? It doesn’t matter anymore,” he said.
After a brief pause, he added, “I don’t have a problem with dying. I want to go. Please think about men. I’m sorry, everyone. Someone should talk about men. They become very lonely. Everything will get better once I go. I have attempted suicide before.”
Shortly after the video surfaced, Sharma’s wife, Nikita, responded with a counter-video, denying the allegations and instead accusing him of domestic abuse.
“The day he died, he had dropped me at my maternal home. His claims are about my past, not after our marriage. He had attempted to harm himself multiple times before, and I stopped him at least three times. He used to drink and beat me,” she stated.
She further claimed that she had informed his parents about his mental health struggles, but they did not intervene.
“I had told his parents everything, but they said it was between husband and wife. They stayed for two days and left. I even called his sister, informing her about his suicide attempts. She told me to go to sleep, saying he wouldn’t do anything,” Nikita added.
Police confirmed that a complaint was filed against Nikita after Sharma’s sister found the video evidence.
“The incident occurred on February 24. Manav Sharma’s body was taken to the Army hospital for post-mortem the next day. However, a case was registered only after the family found the video on his phone. His wife has denied the allegations, and an investigation is underway,” a senior officer stated.
The case has drawn comparisons to the recent suicide of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old deputy general manager at a private firm. He died by suicide in December, leaving behind a 24-page note accusing his wife and her relatives of harassment.
