Recent clashes between TDP and Jana Sena leaders in Pithapuram, Kakinada district, over the absence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s photograph at an official event have reportedly widened tensions between the two parties, particularly at the grassroots level.
What began as a protocol-related issue has now escalated after controversial remarks made by TDP leader Varma. His comment referring to Pawan Kalyan as a “non-local” candidate triggered strong backlash from Jana Sena supporters and the broader Mega fan community.
Varma further claimed that he played a key role in ensuring Pawan Kalyan’s electoral victory in Pithapuram, despite the latter being an outsider candidate. This statement intensified political and social media reactions, with the Mega camp responding strongly on platform X.
They countered Varma’s argument by pointing out that several prominent leaders, including Nara Lokesh, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Daggubati Purandeswari, C.M. Ramesh, and Sujana Chowdary, have also contested elections from constituencies outside their native regions. They also noted that even Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is technically a non-local in Kuppam, as his roots are from Chandragiri.
The Mega camp also questioned Varma’s position, highlighting that he holds no legislative office such as MLA or MLC, and accused him of repeatedly sparking unnecessary controversies. Some even alleged that his remarks might have indirect backing from senior TDP leadership, including Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh.
With the situation escalating into a political war of words, reports suggest that Chandrababu Naidu has taken note of the issue and is likely to intervene personally to control the situation and prevent further strain in the TDP–Jana Sena alliance.
