One of the major criticisms faced by the previous YSRCP government was the normalization of personal attacks and abusive rhetoric against political opponents. From disparaging remarks made against Chandrababu Naidu’s wife, Bhuvaneswari, within the Assembly, to deeply disrespectful comments by figures like Posani Krishna Murali about Pawan Kalyan’s daughter, such behavior became all too common during Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure. Critics often accused the YSRCP leadership of fostering and even encouraging this toxic political environment.
Fast forward to the present day — the NDA-led Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu, is taking a starkly different approach. The party recently acted swiftly and decisively against a person claiming to be a TDP supporter, who appeared in an interview and made derogatory remarks about Jagan Mohan Reddy, his wife Bharathi, MP Avinash Reddy, and even Jagan’s daughters.
As soon as the video surfaced on social media, it drew widespread backlash. Notably, TDP’s own digital wing condemned the incident and demanded strict disciplinary measures. Within just 12 hours of the video going viral, the TDP leadership suspended the individual from the party — sending a clear message that personal abuse and attacks on women, irrespective of political alignment, will not be tolerated.
Additionally, reports suggest that the Guntur police are contemplating legal action against the individual. Despite a subsequent apology video, the party deemed the behavior unacceptable and insufficiently addressed by the apology.
The contrast between the two political styles is striking. During Jagan’s term, several YSRCP leaders — including Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Kodali Nani, and spokespersons like Posani — regularly launched personal attacks against Chandrababu’s family. These instances were rarely condemned by the party leadership, giving the impression of tacit approval.
In contrast, the current government is emphasizing political decency and accountability. A TDP supporter remarked that, while Jagan appeared indifferent (if not encouraging) to the abusive rhetoric from his camp, Chandrababu has demonstrated political maturity by disciplining even a low-level supporter for crossing ethical lines.
This incident serves as a broader reminder: true leadership lies in maintaining dignity, setting standards, and holding one’s own to them — something many believe Jagan Reddy could learn from a seasoned statesman like Chandrababu Naidu.
