The historic Mahanadu event, the annual plenary of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is set to take place in a grand manner this year. A significant occasion in TDP’s calendar, Mahanadu brings together the party’s top leadership, including Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh, along with party cadres and activists from across the state.
A unique feature of Mahanadu is its venue change every year, ensuring the event reaches every corner of Andhra Pradesh. This year, however, the location chosen holds substantial political weight. For the first time, Mahanadu will be held in the CK Dinne area of YSR Kadapa — a region traditionally known as a stronghold for Jagan and his family.
The foundation ceremony will take place on May 7, followed by the grand Mahanadu event from May 27. Preparations for the event are already in full swing, and the plan is to host the plenary on a grand scale, especially since it’s the first after the 2024 election.
The decision to hold the event in Kadapa sends a strong political message. While the district has long been a bastion for YSR Congress, TDP has made notable inroads, securing two out of the seven seats in the newly restructured Kadapa district. This marks a significant shift in the region’s political landscape and could be seen as a gesture of thanks to the local voters who supported TDP in the recent election.
The fact that Mahanadu is being hosted in this key district has undoubtedly sent ripples through the YSR Congress camp, leaving its cadres unsettled. For TDP, this year’s event could prove to be not just a celebration of their success but a strong assertion of their growing influence in areas once dominated by Jagan’s family.
