For the last couple of months, there has been a talk that the relations between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been strained. The proposed meeting between the two chief ministers – K Chandrasekhar Rao and Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has not been held to discuss the plan to construct a joint irrigation project for linking Godavari river with Krishna basin. Subsequently, Jagan has gone ahead with his own river-linkage plan.
Both the states complained against each other in the Krishna river management board. Telangana filed a petition against Andhra on the construction of Polavaram and AP also launched a counter-affidavit questioning the construction of Kaleshwaram project against the norms. Though Jagan came to Hyderabad many times later, he did not meet KCR at all.
However, on Wednesday, Telangana Rashtra Samithi working president and IT minster K T Rama Rao said his father was still maintaining good relations with Jagan Mohan Reddy.Interestingly, he said there was no official statement from either state on the dropping of the proposal for a joint project on Godavari and Krishna rivers.
KTR, however, said even during the Chandrababu Naidu regime, Telangana had good relations with Andhra Pradesh and for that matter, the other states as well.“We have been able to complete the projects only because of the good relations with the neighbours,” he said.
