A 26-year-old student from Telangana was reportedly found dead with bullet wounds in the United States, though the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, according to his family.
G. Praveen, who was pursuing a Master’s degree in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was found with gunshot wounds, as informed by U.S. authorities to his family on Wednesday morning (Indian time). His cousin, Arun, told PTI that some friends mentioned Praveen was discovered with bullet wounds.
There are speculations that Praveen was shot by unidentified assailants at a store; however, the exact cause of death has not been confirmed to the family.
Arun also shared that Praveen had attempted to call his father in the early hours of Wednesday, but the call went unanswered as his father was asleep.
The shocking news has left Praveen’s parents devastated. The family hails from the Ranga Reddy district, near Hyderabad.
U.S. authorities have assured the family that the cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.
Praveen, a B.Tech graduate from Hyderabad, had traveled to the U.S. in 2023 to pursue his Master’s degree. He visited India in December 2024 and returned to the U.S. in January this year.
His family has since sought assistance from MLAs and other officials.
This incident follows the tragic deaths of at least two other Indian students from Telangana—one from Khammam in November last year and another from Hyderabad in January—both of whom were allegedly shot dead in the U.S.
