Kannada actress Ranya Rao has landed in legal trouble after being arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Bengaluru airport for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kg of gold worth ₹12.56 crores. During interrogation, she reportedly made several shocking revelations, including how she learned to conceal gold by watching YouTube videos.

Ranya revealed to the DRI officials that she had been receiving mysterious calls from unknown foreign numbers for the past two weeks. On March 1st, she was contacted by an African-American caller who instructed her to meet an individual at Gate A, Terminal 3 of Dubai Airport. According to her statement, she was directed to collect the gold from an unknown person and deliver it in Bengaluru.

Describing her method, Ranya stated that she purchased crepe bandages and scissors at the Dubai airport and used them to attach the gold bars to her body inside an airport restroom. She further disclosed that she received two plastic bags full of gold bars from an unknown person after clearing security. She then hid the gold in her jeans and shoes—a technique she claimed to have learned from YouTube tutorials.

When asked about the identity of the person who handed her the gold, Ranya stated that she had never met him before. She described him as a fair-skinned man, approximately 6 feet tall. She was instructed to go to the service road after the airport toll gate and place the gold in an autorickshaw near a signal as part of the smuggling operation.

A significant aspect of the case is that Ranya Rao is the stepdaughter of Karnataka DGP K. Ramachandra Rao. She revealed that she frequently visited Dubai for modeling and real estate business and had also traveled to Europe, America, Africa, and the Middle East multiple times.

While Ranya reportedly did not disclose details about the smuggling syndicate, the DRI officials have begun tracking the network using data retrieved from her phone and laptop. Further investigations are underway to uncover the larger nexus behind this high-profile gold smuggling case.
