Telugu cinema has once again proven its consistency and strength in 2025, both in terms of quality and the volume of films released. As we complete the first quarter of the year, the industry has already delivered a series of successful films, setting a strong tone for the months ahead.
The year began with a bang as Sankranthiki Vasthunam, featuring Venkatesh and directed by Anil Ravipudi, turned out to be a huge blockbuster, pulling massive crowds during the Sankranti season. Riding on this festive momentum, Thandel starring Naga Chaitanya also performed strongly at the box office and emerged as a super hit. Another standout was Court: State Vs Nobody, which impressed both audiences and critics, resulting in another huge blockbuster.
Nani’s latest release HIT 3 opened to a strong weekend and showed early promise. However, it experienced a noticeable drop in its second week. Despite this, the film managed to settle as a hit, although it initially had the potential to reach super hit status. Mad Square also delivered well commercially, and its solid reception has helped it earn blockbuster status.
Among dubbed releases, Marco did well and earned the tag of a super hit, while Chhaava and Return of the Dragon turned out to be massive blockbusters, showing the strong hold that well-dubbed content continues to have among Telugu audiences.
Daaku Maharaj showed good potential to do well, but it faced tough competition during the crowded Sankranti season and suffered from limited theatre allocation. Despite that, it still managed to find some success, ending up in the semi hit to hit range.
All in all, the first few months of 2025 have been exciting for Telugu cinema, with multiple films performing impressively and keeping the box office buzzing. The stage is now set for an equally eventful rest of the year.
