Telugu states’ constituencies to be further divided only after 2031

The Union Government has made it clear that the further division of the constituencies in the Telugu states will take place only after 2031. TPCC President and Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy, on Tuesday, raised the question in the Lok Sabha, on the increase of assembly constituencies in the Telugu states. He said that there is a need to increase the existing 119 constituencies in Telangana, to 153 constituencies, according to the AP Bifurcation Act.

Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Roy, replied to Revanth Reddy’s question and said that the constituencies in the Telugu states would only take place after 2031, as per the census published after 2026, as stated in Article 170 of the constitution.

If the further division of the constituencies takes place, the existing 175 constituencies will be increased to 225. Also, the existing 119 constituencies in Telangana will be increased to 153.
