NTR’s previous two films didn’t do well at the box office and even Puri Jagannadh has been in bad form in recent years. Previously NTR and Puri teamed up for Andhrawala, which was a disaster. With so many negative points Temper raised many doubts among film buffs until the theatrical trailer was released. Promos of the film showed lot of promise and raised hopes on the film. Let’s see if Temper lived up to the promise or not.
Story :
Daya (NTR) is a corrupted cop who takes the side of bad guys and does injustice to good people. Valter Vasu (Prakash Raj) and his brothers are guarded by Daya in everything they do. Daya takes bribes from Vasu and does so many illegal things. But one incident changes Daya completely and revolts against Vasu. Daya tries to do justice to a girl and goes to the extremes for doing it.
Performances:
NTR:We have not seen NTR like this in any of his previous films. This is completely new NTR be it styling, body language, dialog delivery and performance. Puri Jagannadh is successful in giving complete makeover to NTR and the latter mesmerizes you with his transformation. It is NTR’s show all the way. He is too good in the scenes where he does corruption and even better in the scenes when he exhibits emotion. This is easily one of the best ever performances of NTR. It is the best from a Telugu actor in recent times.
Others:Kajal’s character is limited to songs and romantic episodes. She pulls it off gracefully. Prakash Raj is good as a criminal who goes to any end to save his brothers. Posani Krishna Murali is excellent as sincere constable. Madhurima did a key role. Sonia Agarwal and Pavitra did their bit.
Technicalities:
Puri Jagannadh is repeatedly failing as a director in recent times due to weak scripts. His decision to work with another writer brought back the best in him. Vakkantam Vamsi’s story has emotional depth and Puri Jagannadh did very good job as a director in making the key scenes work.
Puri is at his best in the scenes where hero transforms from bad to good. He also excelled as a dialog writer. He brought the best out of NTR and other actors. This may not be Puri’s best work in his career, but will definitely be up there amongst his best works.
Music by Anup Rubens is good. Songs are good on screen. Choreography for Temper title song done by Jaani master is marvelous. Fans will go crazy looking at NTR’s dance moves in this song. Editing is crisp without much lag. Cinematography is very good.

Analysis:
Temper is not just a mindless masala film. It has all the ingredients of a commercial potboiler, but also is backed up by emotional depth in the script. The redemption of the lead character has been handled very well. Puri Jagannadh’s direction in first half leaves you wondering if NTR has committed another blunder in script selection.
But the real core of the film is in the second half which takes this film to another level. Story is based on a burning issue which has been dealt in an emotional way. It needs lot of lot of guts to do something NTR and Puri tried in this film. Films like this will work only if the audience also gets connected emotionally to the proceedings.
NTR’s convincing performance backed by Puri Jagannadh’s style of emotional presentation worked wonders for Temper. Temper has its share of weaknesses. Dogs episodes in the first half are sheer pain to watch. Even the interval point doesn’t give you any high despite powerful confrontation between NTR and Prakash Raj.
Logic goes for a toss in many scenes and the climax in jail is over the top. All the weaknesses and shortcomings have been taken care of by a strong and emotionally engaging second half. Temper has the fire power to strike big at the box office.
Verdict: Young Tiger sends Temperatures soaring in Temper.
