Tamil heroes usually enjoy a solid market in the Telugu film industry, while Telugu heroes often struggle to create the same impact in Tamil Nadu. However, Kollywood star Dhanush has managed to break this pattern uniquely. Until recently, Dhanush mostly reached Telugu audiences through dubbed versions of his Tamil films. That changed with Sir and more recently Kubera, both of which were made as bilinguals in Telugu and Tamil, scoring big at the Telugu box office.

Thanks to the success of these films, Dhanush’s market in Telugu states has expanded significantly. Following this success, there is now considerable buzz around his upcoming directorial project Idly Kadai, titled Idly Kottu in Telugu. The film has already generated strong demand among Telugu distributors.

Dhanush, apart from acting, also directs films based on stories he feels passionate about. After impressing audiences with Pa Paandi (Power Paandi), he is now directing Idly Kadai, which is set for release on October 1 this year. Reports suggest there is already a competitive race among Telugu distributors to acquire the rights for the Telugu version.

Dhanush shares a good rapport with the Sithara Entertainments banner, which previously produced Sir. On the other hand, Sunil Narang, who recently produced the hit Kubera, is also in contention. Sources say the Telugu rights for Idly Kottu might end up with either of these two prominent producers.

Given Dhanush’s current form and the success of his previous films in Telugu, Idly Kottu is expected to do strong business. With Dhanush himself directing, the film carries even more excitement and expectations. Adding to the buzz, Don Pictures, Wunderbar Films, and Red Giant Movies are jointly producing the film, with Dhanush himself involved as a co-producer.

Soon, we will know which distributor secures the Telugu rights, but one thing is certain — Idly Kottu is shaping up to be a hot property in the Telugu market.
