Tesla, led by Elon Musk, has begun production of its much-anticipated autonomous robotaxi, the Cybercab, marking a significant milestone in its long-term vision for fully self-driving mobility.

On April 24, Musk confirmed the development through a post on the social media platform X, sharing a short promotional video of the vehicle. “Cybercab has started production,” he wrote, alongside footage showing the driverless vehicle rolling off the factory line and onto public roads.

The 38-second clip offers a glimpse into Tesla’s vision of a fully autonomous ride-hailing future. In another post, Musk shared additional visuals of multiple gold-coloured Cybercabs moving in formation, signaling ambitions for large-scale deployment.

Tesla recently reported stronger-than-expected financial results for the March quarter, posting a net profit of $477 million. During its earnings call, the company stated that it remains on track to begin volume production of both the Cybercab and the Tesla Semi electric truck in 2026.

First unveiled in late 2024, the Cybercab is designed as a dedicated robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals. Musk has previously suggested that the vehicle could become commercially available by 2027.

The company has already begun limited testing of its robotaxi service, offering early-access rides to selected users in Austin, Texas, since mid-2025. Earlier this year, Tesla also shared an image of what it claimed was the first Cybercab unit rolling out from its Giga Texas facility.
