TGB took back Jan Dhan money from 3 lakh Telangana accounts

April 29, 2020
Share

As a part of the Covid-19 relief efforts, Central Government came up with the scheme of giving Rs.500 per Jan Dhan account for 3 months. Telangana Grameena Bank (TGB) took the task of sending the money to the respective accounts for Telangana state.

Around 9 lakh accounts were initially selected for this scheme and the money has been transferred for the first month. Interestingly, Telangana Grameena Bank took back the money from 3 lakh accounts recently. It seems that the Government felt those accounts to be ineligible for the scheme and ordered the bank to take back the money from the accounts.

As per the rules, the accounts that were created after 2014 are eligible for the scheme and the bank official Mahesh mentioned that they identified it after a week. Hence, they were said to have immediately reverted back the transaction for the accounts that are created before 2014.
