Thailand Launches Digital Nomad Visa for Remote Workers

Share

Thailand has long been a preferred destination for digital nomads, offering a combination of stunning beaches, affordable living, and a vibrant cultural experience. To formalize this trend and attract remote professionals, Thailand has launched the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)—a program designed to provide long-term flexibility and stability for remote workers.

The DTV is a five-year, multiple-entry visa, allowing stays of up to 180 days per entry, with the option to extend for an additional 180 days. This extended residency positions Thailand as a highly competitive destination among countries offering remote work visas, enabling professionals to live and work legally while exploring the country.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

Be at least 20 years old

Maintain a bank balance of at least 500,000 THB (~$14,400 USD) for the past three months

Be employed by a company outside Thailand, own a registered business, or operate as a freelancer with a professional portfolio

Application Process

Prepare Required Documents: Valid passport, completed visa form, passport photo, proof of financial stability, employment/freelance/business documents, proof of residence, and health insurance covering Thai visa requirements.

Submit Application: Online via the Thai e-Visa platform or in-person at a Thai embassy/consulate.
