Thalapathy Vijay has officially announced his retirement from films, completing the shoot of his final project, Jana Nayagan. The film, now in post-production, was initially slated for a January 9, 2026 release. However, Vijay’s confidence in meeting this release date appears to be wavering due to multiple challenges.
The actor’s recent setback stems primarily from the stampede incident at a rally organized by his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). This controversy, coupled with ongoing disputes with the Tamil Nadu government, has cast a shadow over the film’s release. Vijay is currently under immense scrutiny, and public sentiment has been mixed, especially following his swift exit from Karur to Madurai after the tragic event.
Given these circumstances, KVN Productions has temporarily put all promotional activities on hold. The success of Jana Nayagan is critical for Vijay, as he intends to shift his focus entirely to his political career post-release. The film is reportedly expected to reflect aspects of his political ideologies.
Although the team had planned a major promotional campaign around Diwali, uncertainties surrounding Vijay’s image and public perception mean that no concrete plans have been finalized yet.
