In the post-COVID era, theatre-going culture in North India has seen a steady decline. A lack of promising Hindi films that demand a theatrical experience, coupled with the rise of OTT platforms, has significantly impacted box office business in the region.
So far this year, only a few Hindi films like Chhaava, Stree 2, and Saiyaara have managed to make a mark, while major releases such as War 2, Sikandar, Sitaare Zameen Par, and Raid 2 have fallen short of expectations. Now, all attention is on Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s upcoming horror thriller, Thamma, set to release on October 21. Fans are eager to see if it can recreate the success of Maddock Films’ earlier horror hit, Stree 2.
Releasing during Diwali, one of Bollywood’s biggest business periods, Thamma benefits from minimal competition, giving it a significant advantage. The film is also part of Maddock’s Horror Cinematic Universe, which includes hits like Stree, Munjya, Bhediya, and Stree 2. Given the track record of these films, expectations for Thamma are high. If the film manages to generate positive word of mouth, it could dominate the box office and even surpass the collections of Stree 2, making it one of the standout Hindi releases of the year.
