Pawan Kalyan’s much-awaited action thriller They Call Him OG has shattered box office records with a phenomenal opening. The film raked in ₹91 crore net on its first day in India, while worldwide collections have already crossed ₹150 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
The film’s success story began even before its release, with ₹20.25 crore earned through previews, some of which were scheduled as early as 1 AM. Ticket prices soared to as high as ₹1,000 in parts of Andhra Pradesh, further fueling its massive opening.
Despite multiple production delays, They Call Him OG drew an impressive 69.35% occupancy in Telugu. Other languages also contributed—18.36% in Tamil, 10.37% in Hindi, and 9.19% in Kannada. The film was showcased across 4,161 Telugu shows nationwide, 226 Tamil shows, 336 Hindi screenings, and about 20 Kannada screenings.
Adding to its box office momentum, the film benefitted from a temporary hike in ticket prices during its initial release window (September 25–October 4). Rates were increased by ₹125 in single screens and ₹150 in multiplexes, with standard pricing set to return from October 5.
However, the film’s international release faced turbulence. Several US and UK distributors pulled out, alleging irregularities and delays. York Cinema in North America cancelled all screenings, while European distributor 4 Seasons Creation AS criticized delayed deliveries impacting schedules in 37 countries. Canada also saw multiple show cancellations due to logistical issues. To salvage the rollout, Prathyangira Cinemas distributed physical hard drives from Los Angeles to theaters across the US, ensuring screenings went ahead.
Back home, advance bookings exceeded ₹70 crore, with projections estimating a ₹150 crore opening weekend. The film has already outperformed the lifetime collections of Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu (₹116 crore worldwide) and surpassed the total box office runs of Bro (2023), Bheemla Nayak (2022), and Vakeel Saab (2021). This marks the biggest opener of Pawan Kalyan’s career.
Directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Entertainments, They Call Him OG is mounted on a massive budget of ₹200–250 crore. The film stars Priyanka Arul Mohan, Emraan Hashmi, Prakash Raj, Arjun Das, and Sriya Reddy, alongside Pawan Kalyan in a commanding performance that has set the stage for a historic box office run.
